Every year the California Department of Education designates a group of schools with the California Distinguished Schools status. This year Carlsbad Unified’s Hope Elementary School was recognized as one of the state’s most outstanding public schools by State Superintendent of Public Instruction Tom Torlakson. The Carlsbad schools were among 424 public elementary schools statewide that received this honor. Tom Torlakson will present each school with a 2014 Distinguished School plaque and flag at this year’s 2014 California Distinguished Schools Awards Ceremony.

Additional schools in the Encinitas Unified School District located in Carlsbad also received this honor. The schools are La Costa Heights Elementary School, Mission Estancia Elementary School, Olivenhain Pioneer Elementary, and El Camino Creek Elementary.
